Solution engineers work with the partner sales team to provide technical expertise on PayPal solutions. You'll work directly with a sales person during meetings with potential partners to provide technical credibility and help lead discussions around what the partner wants to accomplish and what PayPal has to offer that would meet those needs.
A significant percentage of PayPal merchants worldwide come to us through partnerships such as shopping carts and marketplaces. As a solutions engineer, you'll be supporting the sales team that focuses on finding new partner opportunities that represent significant growth and/or new strategic markets for PayPal expansion.
You'll also be working with the partner's ecosystem. That includes system integrators that support the partner's platform as well as other 3rd party vendors that represent further opportunities for PayPal to grow and expand our influence with the partner/marketplace.
This role requires that rare combination of both strong business skills and technical skills. In detail those skills include:
Soft skills in speaking with all management levels (CEO, CFO, CTO, VP Engineering, etc) of a potential new partner
Business skills to put our value proposition in terms a CEO and CFO can understand and relate to
Technical skills to provide clarity on the implementation specifics for a CTO, engineering manager and/or developer
Depth of technical and business understanding of all PayPal products and the ability to determine which of our many products represents the best opportunity for both the partner and PayPal.
Creation of a solution design that reflects the suggested PayPal solution(s) that is provided within context of the partner's offering. This provides the business side of the partner with a roadmap for how PayPal gets added to their platform. This also provides the technical side of the partner with a high-level guide for the implementation. A separate team of integration engineers will provide the partner with the technical details including API calls and options, setting up test accounts, etc.
