Union Pacific Sr Project Engineer in Omaha, Nebraska

Description

Position serves in a technical role within Union Pacific’s Information Technology Department with a focus on the Positive Train Control (“PTC”) application and related systems.

Union Pacific Railroad is looking to fill one Sr Project Engineer position in Omaha, Nebraska.

Accountabilities

  • Job duties include the following: Research and understand PTC application and system requirements. Review system test scenarios. Responsible for various technical analysis and reporting related to PTC. Analyze PTC caused brake application events and recommend process improvement for reduction of braking events. Analysis and resolution of problem tickets reported by train crews. Field testing of the PTC application and system, development of field testing scenarios, planning execution of field testing events, and monitoring and support of field testing events. Preparation of status reports, test reports, and analysis reports. Daily planning and execution of analysis tasks, work allocation, assigning task priority, and function as a subject matter expert with respect to the PTC application and related systems. Engage in client / customer interactions where needed. Participate in technical discussions with vendor nominated technical resources for open contractor positions.

Qualifications

Required

  • A Bachelors Degree (foreign equivalent accepted) in Computer Science, Engineering, Management Information Systems, or related and three years’ professional work experience in the specialty or an IT related occupation required.
  • 3 year(s) experience in information technologies including experience with messaging and communication concepts such as Classc, Classd, EMP, Routing Rules, Gateway Routers, and Inter operable Railroad Communication. Three years’ software development experience including working with Eggplant, QTP, Java (including ability to Design Hybrid Automation Frameworks), CBTC Protocol Analyzer, Quality Center, VMware, SharePoint, and Locomotive / Wayside Simulators. Demonstrated ability to diagnose application problems and develop effective solutions. Knowledge of railroad operations, including PTC messaging and onboard systems.
